A busy Thursday morning over at Christ Church Oldbury, last week, for the latest meeting of the Sandwell Volunteer Organiser’s Network where the focus of the event was Volunteers and the Law.
Caroline Webb and Eileen Fielding form Dudley Council of Voluntary Services presented the event with slides of really useful and highly relevant information for organisations who involve volunteers. From the payment of bus fares and lunch allowances through to understanding the latest changes to the Independent Safeguarding Authority, a whole kaleidoscope of subjects were covered.
Delegates heard about the experiences of other volunteer managers while being able to talk about their own experiences and concerns.
Attendees reflected the commnunity coming in from a wide range of services and specialisms including special needs adult support, hospice support for children and Sandwell's Deaf community.
Dudley CVS have been presenting the Volunteers and the Law session to communities across Dudley and Sandwell and can present a tailored package of awareness and in this session, some extra depth was presented through the use of case studies - some of them presenting quite difficult situations involving volunteers.
The Sandwell Volunteer Organiser's Network meets every few months and the next meeting is scheduled for early December and the theme is Recruiting and Retaining Volunteers – please give us a call for the exact date - telephone 0121 544 8326.
